Alone, In A Mirror

2026
This series of self-portraits explores my experiences of rage and emotional overwhelm. Moving beyond the initial impulse and act of hitting myself, the work focuses on the quiet, somatic repair and self-soothing that follows these intense moments.

The paintings are created using watercolour and ice. The choice of ice is both symbolic and functional; once used as a tool to physically interrupt my urge to hit, the ice now serves as a collaborator. As it melts into the pigment, the figure begins to dissolve—mirroring the way the rage subsides and my sense of self becomes fluid.

These blurred, dissolving images speak to a feeling of detachment and unreality present in those moments. By documenting these private acts of tenderness, the series seeks to unburden a once-hidden struggle and reclaim a sense of personal empowerment.
